Day 5 With The Flu

Well, I'm still suffering with the flu.  This is now my fifth day of spending at least half of the daylight in my bed and basically the remaining hours on my couch.  My husband is down in Florida visiting his Mom, sister and niece and even though I miss him when he's gone, I must say, I am comforted knowing that he doesn't have to look at me in this condition.  It is not pretty!  Today I really need to try to take a shower.  I promise you all I have showered since I've been sick, but I admit, I haven't showered much.  It seriously takes a lot of energy to do such things when suffering from this illness.  Wish me luck! I spoke to my Mom last night.  She, too, is down in sunny Florida (at least I think they have some sun today in Naples). Anyway, the funny thing is my Mom told me to I have to be careful about my cats.  At first I didn't know what she meant, but then I realized she was worried about my getting them sick.  I explained to her that it's not

Bed Blogging

Home sick with what I think may be the flu.  I may have gotten it from my boss who is such a workaholic that he refuses to ever stay away from the office.  Anyway, I believe I've been infected and no, I never got a flu shot (though I read yesterday that 4 out of every 10 Americans who did receive a flu shot are still getting certain strains of the flu). I thought about posting a picture of myself lying in bed looking sick and disgusting, like I do, but I thought I would save you all from the image, but I found these other pics of other sick people, so let's use those - for effect: I feel a real connection with this particular individual...I think it's the hoodie. So now that I'm sick, I'm looking for some activities to keep me busy, which is difficult seeing as I'm too weak to get out of bed.  I've tried to get some work done despite my condition, but when we get sick, our brains get a little foggy.  On top of already feeling not to with i

Why Dollhouse Diaries?

Why is my blog titled Dollhouse Diaries? Though I presently work full-time in the real estate industry, my full-time job about six years ago was in the dollhouse miniatures business.  Over ten years ago, I started working for a dollhouse shop in Greenwich, CT.  I was already a big dollhouse/miniature enthusiast and it just so happened that a job opportunity came up at this adorable retail shop and I happened to be perfect for this job.  The job required someone who is great with people (me), had a lot of experience in the retail business (me), thoroughly understood the meaning of 'customer service' (me again) and who had the creativity and artistic ability to help create wonderful miniature displays and even build some of the custom 1:12 scale dollhouses for both new and old customers of the store (this is SO me).  Anyway, I left my very boring job I had at the time for my new dream job and it was wonderful.  Finally, I had a job where I absolutely adored what I was doing and

TGIF

Thank goodness it's Friday! This has been a long week for me.  Too much driving.  Lot's of work at the office and not enough sleep! I'm ready for the weekend. I have to admit I still haven't taken the ornaments off our Christmas tree nor removed the holiday lights from the front and side of my house (not that it's unusual for me to postpone activities such as this).  I also have a full Christmas snow village to take down and I have to pack up my beloved carolers . While I sat impatiently in my office chair today waiting for the clock to strike 5:00, I couldn't help but do a little shopping...I managed to spend quite a bit of dough just sitting here.  It can be a problem sometimes, the ease of online shopping.  Anyway, I'm looking forward to receiving my new items tomorrow (thanks Amazon Prime)! Want to see what I bought?  I thought you might! :) Mirror I've needed since my previous mirror broke about 3-4 months ago!  Yes, I have lite

Traffic Violation

On my way to court to try to fight a speeding ticket I received months ago... wish me luck! I guess I should have at least tried to talk myself out of the ticket, but I didn't.  Heading to Patterson Court House in a couple of minutes. Basically, they make you show up 45 minutes before court begins.  Sounds like a whole lot of waiting around if you ask me.  That'll teach me to keep the pedal to the metal!  No, seriously, I really wasn't going very fast. The officer made a mistake.  It was impossible for me to be speeding.  I was in a long line of cars driving home after work and there's just no way I could have been doing 20 mph above the speed limit.  If I was, EVERYBODY was speeding. Anyone who thinks my hot new Mini may have proved to be a target, raise your hand!

Dental Disaster

I must have bad luck when it comes to dental work.  I went into my dentist's office today for a simple filling.  He gave me a shot of Novocaine and kept asking me whether or not I was numb.  I kept telling him, "a little bit."  Anyway, he starts drilling and I basically jumped in my seat.  Then he asks, sounding surprised, "Are you feeling this?" while simultaneously pulling the drill out of my mouth. "Yes!" I replied as best I could with some contraption still hanging out of the left side of my mouth.  And I knew immediately when he pulled the drill out of my mouth (drill still set on high speed), he swiped my bottom lip. I'm now back at work with a not-so-small cut on my not-so-small recently fattened lip. I have a party to attend tomorrow night.  I just hope I can hide this by then.  :(  BOO HOO Now I know why it's been a while since I went to the dentist.  Somehow, it's never a good experience for me.
I just thought of another resolution for 2013 and feel compelled to write. Ever feel the need to keep certain things that you basically KNOW you will never use?  I definitely have had countless items which fall into this category. One of my resolutions this year is to either give away or throw away at least three items every single day and no, I don't mean a used tissue or Q-tip (gross)!  Of course, I always throw that type of thing of in the garbage immediately.  What I'm referring to is the not-so-attractive bowl that I keep because I've had it so long that I've become so used to its ugliness and I've forgotten that I bought that bowl for $2.00 at a garage sale MANY years ago when I was a poor struggling college student who barely had enough money to pay the rent for my apartment (even uglier than the bowl I'm parting with) which sported a gold and brown shag area rug and considering I was in college in the late-1990's, this was clearly hideous in ever

Cat World

I have always been a huge fan of cats.  Yes, I have been called Crazy Cat Lady more times than I can count.  I never really understood that term, to be honest.  In fact, I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to have a bunch of cats around.  Cats are magnificent creatures.  They are smart and have unique personalities and needless to say, cats don't lack attitude.  They don't just follow you around and do whatever you would like them to do and I find that's what makes them desirable pets for me.  One must respect a cat to earn their affection. I have had two cats for many years.  Let's face it, pets are a lot of work and I always felt two furry friends provided me with great companionship and also plenty of work.  It wasn't until about two years ago that a third kitty found her way into my life.  She literally showed up outside in the freezing cold on Christmas Eve Day.  It was about 12 degrees outside and I had a terrible feeling she wouldn't mak

Happy New Year!

Well, today marks the first day of 2013.  I have decided to make my first resolution - working on my blog (finally)!  I set up this blog back in 2007 and I suppose I've either been extremely busy for the last several years or I've had a severe case of writer's block.  Anyway, I'm determined to make this year different. I've always had a passion for writing, but it seems that since my work schedule has gotten so busy, I haven't made the time for doing many of the things I enjoy - writing included.  I also haven't made time for my music - I like to play the flute and always imagined one day I might actually compose a flute solo of my own (yes, actually write the music myself).  However, I admit, this may prove more of a dream than a reality - at least that's how I imagine that to be for the next few years. I have had a lot of major events in my life the last couple of years. First, I purchased my dream home - a Queen Anne Victorian that I absolutely
